I have been VERY excited all off season with ancipation. MM took a lot of heat from some of our regulars for her off season picks...but I kept saying she was doing great things....LAST NIGHT PROVED IT.
I saw our veterans starting in place of our future franchisers....I saw Carol Ross up on the sidelines taking over certain areas (could this be the transition we have all hoped for???).
I am SO excited about our potential this year. I love our team RIGHT NOW...I am glad I am not a coach and have to cut 3 people becuase I could see promise in them all!
GO DREAM!

I think we all realize (and if you haven't yet, you should) that Carol Ross is the next coach. The organization needs her badly. Last night was a welcomed sight with her directing players and her one-on-one coaching.
I was very excited to see the team play last night. I think the season is promising once we really start to gel. If the five she started last night is "the starting five" then we need to make a change. While those five are veterans, they were a bit stagnant to me. They didn't want to run. They played slow ball and we got behind early. We need to insert McCoughtry into the starting line up. She brings energy. She hustles. She gets steals and rebounds not to mention her ability to score. We need all of these things to start the game. Rookie or not, she definitely looked better than Tamera Young did last year at this same time. I wasn't terribly impressed when we drafted her, but I think she can do big things for the Dream.

the off season picks fell into mm's lap....and she didn't get heat for them.....she got heat for the waiving of lennox.....and rightly so.....
i think angel needs to be brought along slowly.....she has ego aplenty.....and she needs to learn that she's a component of the team.....the team is not a component of her.....she needs to learn to select her shots a little more judiciously.....she has the characteristic that she feels that she's the best player on the floor.....at times a good and needed characteristic and in college many times it was true.....but presently.....she isn't.....i don't think inserting her into the starting lineup at this time would teach her the humility that i feel she needs to learn in order to be a great teammate....
all those things jordan3 mentions are things that are needed for a sixth man.....and an at times much needed lift from the bench....

Angel's not confused about who/what is a 'component' of what nor about what her role is. From Courier Journal article: And I've heard her say similar things in person at the Meet the Ones STH event and seen it in other print articles. Does she have swag? Yeah...and I don't mind. She's not the only Dream player with swag. I want my team to have swag. But she also knows she has much to learn, that the transition from college to pro is a jump, etc. and she's willing to learn, be taught and do whatever the team/coaches want/need her to do.

i don't know scarab.....every player is coached to say the right things.....but her history says otherwise.....and in her first "w" game she shot 15 times.....which pretty much falls in line with her pattern....her personality is well known and isn't likely to change overnight.....regardless of some lovely soundbites.....
she can play.....no doubt.....but angel's never been the sacrifice for the team type.....i'm not saying that she can't be.....i'm just saying that the jury is still out on that one.....i've always been a "watch what they do" and not a "listen to what they say" type of guy....

Just to clarify - I wasn't surprised by how amazing the Dream could be, but I bet some of the other players and coaches around the league were. I think our team - even with so many new faces - has clicked well. I can't wait for the 6th!

Quick question to anyone who watched or listened to the game.
Which position did McCoughtry play when she was in the game. Her natural position is Forward, but I suppose she could play guard too. Did she?

She played the 3 primarily and was 1-4 from behind the arc Her defense was good with a couple of steals turning into layups..but she also forced some ill advised shots trying to do too much too soon. I saw that same bad decision making at practice Saturday. She is a good player, but she will not be our offensive output machine like she was expected to be at UL. In the WNBA...shots like that accumulate quickly and turn into points for the other teams and by end of quarter 4....you lose. But she has great promise.

Trueblue72, I agree that McCoughtry took some ill-advised shots during the preseason game and during Saturday's practice. IMO, she was never really that good at Louisville from behind the arc. Hopefully, she will improve in this area and use better decision making on the offensive end. I hope no one expected her to produce like she did at Louisville. She has the ability to, but being a part of a completely different system is not going to allow it early on. I think she'll get more playing time than people think because of her defensive abilities.

i really think that we've exchanged one betty for another.....granted this betty can play pretty good "d"....but the fact that she took 15 shots in her first pro game....on a team full of stars and vets....says an awful lot.....especially given her history of never having met a shot she didn't like.... ..... i've got great hopes for angel....but i think it's going to be at least two years before she hits her stride..... and she just seems to me to be the kind of player that has to feel that the team is built around her....that needs to be the franchise player.....i could be wrong.....
