You know what Jaye it's sooo good to see a male so into the WNBA. I don't know how many more bloggers are male but so many times males are so negative toward women BB. I'm jst laughing at your posting on mique. You are sooo right. The girl still can BALL. Even on the bum knees she is the backbone of that team. I'm a season ticket holder and you should see how she coaches on the sidelines. With so much passion. You know she had been so quiet in her college days and most of her pro days but she seems soo pasionate now. I missed the game tonight and I heard it was a great one. I'm sooo happy we got this monkey off our back cause we should have been winning against NY. Every team that beat NY we have beat. ATL needs some Jaye's to fill those seats also. Jaye I also laugh about your Ivory/shalee postings. I think at this point MN's pride won't let her start Ivory. She cut her (when she shouldn't have) and now she don't want pie in her face. Right now Ivory is playing some good ball and maybe coming off the bench might be a good thing. One of the STH that sit by me brought up something. She feels Angel could run the point. What ya'll think about that? LOL LOL - No fighting please, just asking opinions.

ok....i'll keep my fists down i don't usually fight unless people get confrontational or condecending with me.... but i agree with just about everything you said.....i've been a fan of womens' basketball for decades.....i watched lynette woodard....cheryl miller and teresa edwards with awe....i remember woodards reply when asked about how she felt being able to play professionally for the trotters....she said "i'd play for free".....that was just the attitude i.....and every baller i knew had.....when i realized that these women loved the game just as much as i did....i was hooked.... and i agree with you about mm's pride.....i've said so on more than one occasion.....but it doesn't matter.....we're going to win in spite of her..... one thing troubles me.....i don't have one single male friend that has the slightest interest in the wnba.....shames me to say.....but guys are extremely sexist.....they have an idea in their minds of what women should be.....and pretty much nothing is going to change that....at first i'd try to convert them.....show them what they were missing.....but it was a complete waste of time......they refused to acknowledge..... i've got a 16 year old son that was a fan.....but he's fav star driven.....when mm cut our two leading scorers he thought that was extremely bush league and stupid.....and lost respect for the league.....he's slowly coming back......but he has nowhere near the interest he had before......shame..... oh.....as to angel running the point.....hard to succeed with a point guard that will come down on the break and shoot a 17 footer 1 on 4......

The problem I had was that there was no publicity for the WNBA when It first started (and there still isn"t), and if you ever did hear about it (and this was on ESPN), the line was that it wasn't any good, and just for football fans who didn't have anything else to watch during the off season.
In '02 my job burned to the ground just in time for March Madness, and I had the time to watch ALL the games, both mens and womens. That was the first time I got to see how good the womens game really was, and I've been hooked every since. Both of my stepsons call me a loser (one in his late 20s, and the other in his early 30s), but it's their loss.
If the league would push for more and better coverage, I really think the guys would come around. I don't know what the local coverage is like in Atlanta, but up here, less than half of the Sky games are televised. The team isn't publicized, and the games are barely mentioned on the news.
I saw that there were way plenty seats at the game last night. It's a Saturday night, and the seats are definitely affordable. The game is great. There is no reason for the place not to be packed.

some of my friends from atl say that fans have become somewhat disenchanted with mm's actions.....latta and young are d**n near worshiped there.....and mm's treatment of them.....and her dubious coaching and management decisions have alienated some fans....atlanta fans are fickle in the best of circumstances.....it doesn't take much to piss them off.... add to that....atl is a party town....and sat nite is a party nite..... and well.....

I know what you're saying about Atl. I know a couple of people who go dowm on a regular basis.
I am pretty computer illerate, so i don't know how to bring over yesterdays post on the Mercury game, but it seems to me that the GM should be firing the coach. If your pride is affecting the way that you coach, you will never be effective. And even without the pride, some of her decisions are questionable at best. Also, I think deedee's "great white hope" comment is probably spot on.
If you are a good GM, or coach winning is the only thing that should matter. That other stuff should mean nothing. But, I guess if you don't have to worry about your job, coaching decisions can be based on anything.

You guys got any insight on why Tamera's not being played? I was hoping to see her on the court last night...
Maybe the influx of New Orleans people in the last 5 years will change the make-up of Atlanta fans...growing up watching the Saints makes you not so fickle!! ;D

Bayougirl--some other folks here are in agreement w/the pride comment. And yes, I'd love to see more Jayes here and in the stands. What's positive is that as you probably know, a lot of the male fans who post on Rebkell have said that they have been fans since the 2000s, so here are guys who developed as fans and who have *not* been following wbb for decades like Jaye. Yes, Mique is so valuable to us; look at her demeanor now, it is a lethal combination of calm yet *passionate*...attribute at least in part to her being open about what she has been through. And when you are open about your tribulations, people say to you, "Yeah, and thanks for being brave enough to share, it has helped and inspired me"...how many times do you think she has heard that this year? In the three Dream games I've been fortunate enough to attend this season, you are right, when she is on the sidelines she is coaching others. And when she's on the floor, well, you can see why they call her Big Smooth...even in some circus plays, as Jaye said earlier she gets that roll. Cardman: the coverage in Atlanta by the major news outlets is poor. The AJC is guilty of not having coverage or burying any coverage, as witnessed by the difficulty of finding the Dream tab on its website. As of a few weeks ago, if you could find the Dream page, it still had Betty's picture on it. Basically HS football and the Peachtree Road Race get better coverage by the AJC. I know last year they had an intern cover the team. I did see where one of the old school ATL TV sports anchors, Chuck Dowdle, is retiring, don't know if it will change things for the better at that station. The best local coverage was by Josh Bagarinsky of Score Atlanta, a free publication....game articles, a blog with insight and questions (particularly about playing time) that went deeper than the AJC's AP-culled blurbs. Maybe he could ask MM about Young if he hasn't already. Honestly there is a mindset in the ATL area that is very sexist (and I don't throw that term around freely), it is deeply entrenched and it ain't gonna change anytime soon. If you don't have the name Dawg, Braves, Falcons Hawks or Yellow Jackets (ok, even Thrashers), they don't care. I think some more coverage would help but the biggest thing is winning. We are coming off a 4-win season last year, so who was going to run up and buy tix this year? We win, we stop underachieving like we are now, more people will be excited about coming out to see an exciting, winning team. We had flashes of this last night. Cardman, re Chicago: I have also been to games in Chicago and it is a shame that there are not more fans. I mean, you are talking about 3500 people on a Saturday night. Even for the Sparks game the announced attendance was like 5500. But again, they are winning now, so maybe that will translate to more butts in seats. I hope so...otherwise, they will be gone and instead of driving 90 mins to Chi I'll have to drive 4 hours to Indy to see a game in person. :0 I have seen some complaints about where they play, that it is not convenient to the far-flung CHI suburbanites who have bball playing daughters. I think it's convenient, it is *right* off the highway, and I am driving a lot further than those folks. Cardman, don't worry about the guys that cut it down, what can you do but keep enjoying the game. I'm sure there are more male fans now than there were 10 years ago, it takes time. I take my young son to games and he really enjoys them. I am trying to raise him to realize that not only boys play ball/drive race cars/etc. Ha ha...I know I said that Philips arena was empty when the game started...but I forgot that a lot of the Atlanta fans are habitually late for games. I really wish I knew what has Young in MMs doghouse. She was having her best game of the season when she got injured. What the heck happened between then and now? AFF

No-one is going to know why MM does anything. I have never in my life seen any coach like her. I take that back. The Bears kept Grossman in a starters role long after he proved he didn't deserve it. She needs to go! If she doesn't, she's going to drive the team and the fan-base right into the ground.
The fans weren't just late for start time, they were late for the game period.
I know that Jaye said Atl is a party town, but how about something to do as a family? Surely you don't take your kids to the parties do you? It's cheaper than going to a movie, and surely more entertaining than most of the movies I see advertised.
The league itself should be getting some broadcast deals together. Up to a point, I don't think ownership cares too much though. With the exception of Conn, all the teams are owned by NBA teams. And I really think it's a write-off.
If Mike and Mike were out there saying, "Hey, these games are pretty good," I think the public would take note. I watched ESPN for 2 hours this morning before I logged on, and the best they could do was run the scores on the crawl at the bottom of the screen every second or third time through. They dedicated full segments to the X-games! Who cares about the X-games. The one thing I know is, that If attendance doesn't improve league-wide, we're in trouble. If Houston can fold, it should become obvious that no-one is immune.

Super game last evening Dream. I love everyone of you ladies. MM did 1/3 right. 1/3 will not; I repeat will not get you into the playoffs. We beat NY the hard way. We have an optional running team. WE HAVE RUNNERS & GUNNERS!!!! New York does not. They have rough, tough 3 point folk. They have solid long bodied ladies. We should have put our runners and gunners out there, the latest, 3rd quarter for a solid workout. In case you have forgotten, they are: Tamera Young, Angel McCoughtry, Jennifer Lacy, Sancho Lytle and Ivory Latta (or Shalee, she's quick and those other4 will make sure she is in the right place at the right time). Mique is our power star. She should have been rotated in and out. She is our floor coach (umph! wish she was bench head coach). All of our other girls should have been rotated in and out accordingly. They are absolutely magnificent. I mean it. We have 11 undeniably superb players. Goodness, imagine if they were coached at a higher level which they so deserve. MM, please step down for the cause. We may never pass this way again.
Go Dream. I love you with a passion!!!!!!!!!!!

Thanks for your post, tony53, but you're off base, despite your passion. 1/3 wrong? Please. We beat a team we'd lost to routinely. It's not wrong. It's right. What we have is a post game, not runner/gunners. We should take advantage of THAT. And while you may not see Shalee's contribution, the coaches and others do every day. She deserves to be starting, even though her point-production is limited (as it was in college).

Pusser, it's obvious to me and others I'm sure, that it's purely 'passion' that have you guys seeing Shalee for what she's not. HOW does she deserve to start HOW? What can she (God knows that she hasn't) contribute that the others on the bench cannot quadruple? Her dribbling skills? 3 pointers? Assists? Free throws? Ball handling??? How can you make an intelligent statement in saying that she 'deserves' to start? But then, intellect is the operative word... As far as the coaching goes, we all know that MM should never have been given the coaching job. But, if you're GM, you can do pretty much what you want... There's no way that any real coach would not play a superstar such as Tamara Young and have another superstar, Ivory Latta coming off the bench. If players have issues behind closed doors, then settle them there. Again, I'll go there. MM is playing the race card plain and simple. She's dead set on the great white hope rising to the occasion. The girl doesn't have it! No offense to Shalee, but GET REAL. We're talking about a professional sport, not who gets to pass out cookies at snacktime...
