Rap along with other genres of music is filled with people bragging about things they have/haven't actually done/seen and things they really do/don't have. Remember, it's entertainment and it makes tons of money. Why are you "very dissapointed" in Ivory b/c of her choice of music? It may not be your cup of tea but I mean c'mon, that wasn't the most important item in the article. I saw that Ivory has faith in this team and believes Atlanta can do something good in time. She also realizes B-Money knows how to make things happen and is a good leader. That's what's important, not her playlists. (And FYI I'm not a big Lil Wayne fan and I don't care for music with a lot of violence, bad language, etc I just think it's a trivial matter)

i didn't say it was the most important part of the article.... nor did i insinuate such..... it was simply the part of the article i commented on.... and it's not "just" entertainment..... it shapes lifestyles and moral choices for a major portion of our youth..... you think it's just entertainment.... walk by yourself in the hood at night.... and see how entertained you'll get.... and no offense..... but only someone with limited life knowledge would think that making a "ton" of money was justification for anything.....
i made no comment on her dedication to the team.... i simply commented on her buying into that garbage.... i judge people on their decisions..... and in my estimation..... that's a bad one.... you're free to think what you will....

If Latta like rap I really could care less. I care if she can help the Dream. When I think rap I don't think "Walking in the hood at night". I think about white youth and not the hood keeping it the top money maker. They are the ones buying the clothes and music not the hood. The interview was nice and to pick out one thing to be negative about and comment in the forum, I don't think it was right. But thats my oppinion and you are entitle to yours. If you look at anybody history you can find something negative if you want. Lets talk about the WNBA, DREAMS, AND SPORTS in general. When you start talking about music and the "HOOD", it goes a different direction. GO DREAM LETS GET THAT FIRST WIN!

you have no idea what you're talking about.... how old are you anyway..... where do you kids get the idea that opinions are bashing.... it's what forums are for.... discussions.... not hero worship.... if there are aspects to some players that disturb me.... i have every right to comment on them.... the negatives as well as the positives....
no one here or one any other site has defended ivory as vigorously as i have..... but it's extremely juvenile to place any athlete or entertainer on a pedestal and feel indignation when they are questioned....
and the effects of the rap culture isn't about the cd's and the clothes..... it's about the moral disintegration of our youth.... it's why you can't walk in the hood at night..... why our elderly aren't safe in their own homes..... and why we're killing each other at an alarming rate....
i'm not in the habit of arguing with children..... especially in a "you can't say that about brittany" argument..... there are negative and positive aspects to all our athletes.... "adults" are capable of discussing both..... and "adults" understand that discussion isn't "bashing" or "hatin'" .....
one of my fav players stating that she likes someone like lil wayne saddens me just as it would if she announced that she adheres to some of the kkk's doctrines....as an adult i have the right to comment on it..... if only positive spin can be addressed here.... it needs to be put in the rules....

Hm, why so serious? you need a hug. I don't hero worship any man or woman. You can say and do what you want thats why I love this country. But you talking like you the #1 authority on the hood and rap music. Our society has alot of problem and listening to rap music is a small part of it. You have no idea what you are talking about. I know people that walk in the hood everyday, Have You. I'm not hear to talk about a players selecting of music. You do have the right to comment on whatever you want. God Bless you and yours GO DREAMS!

First off, you were entitled to your opinion as I was to mine. I didn't say you thought it was the most important part of the article, the fact that it was the only subject of your post was why I chose to reply. Also, I didn't say money justified the content of rap, I was commenting on how our society OK's matters of that nature for the almighty dollar which is what contributes to more artists producing the same types of lyrics. And as much as you or I may cringe at things Lil Wayne and other rappers say, it seems there are more people cheering them on. Second, simply because I had something to say on the matter doesn't necessarily mean I'm a youngster with "limited life knowledge". Latta is not my favorite player and as much as I enjoy basketball, I don't make heroes out of people. If you were commenting on an article about someone not as well known I would've had the same reply. I think that many young ones have a skewed idea of what's right and wrong and no, it doesn't help when someone who glorifies wrongdoing is supported by a public figure. I do agree with you on that point. For me, musical preference is as I said before...trivial. Your post came off as if you had completely written Latta off as a person for a poor choice in music. That point, and that point only was my issue. You clarified that in your second post so I think we're on the same page, or at least in the same chapter now. I appreciate differing opinions because they help me in becoming a more well-rounded person.

Sorry, but I find this entire post laughable, especially coming from the person who jumps down the throat of anyone who criticizes Latta and continuously accuses folks of "bashing." If someone offers a different opinion, it MUST be something wrong with them. LMAO! ;D

laugh all you want.... evidently you really don't read my posts.... you scan.... and inflect what you think i'm saying into them..... i never have defended a player personally.... as to latta.... i defended her play.... and argued with those that stated that she wasn't skilled enough to play point..... i like to debate..... if you call that jumping down anothers throat.... read this slowly..... i "argued" with those that claimed latta couldn't play the point.... that she was a selfish player..... and i believe i told them that they needed to stop bashing her until she actually failed at the job.....
but i'm intelligent enough to realize that others are entitled to believe what they want.... but i also have the right to argue with them about it.... just because i argue with them about it doesn't mean i think something is wrong with them because they don't agree with me.... where the hell do you get that from....
i argue vigorously at times..... but i've apologized to people when i've gone over the line.... this last thing.... i said i was dissapointed with latta.... and all of a sudden i'm writing her off as a person???.....
just what was it that you laughed your ass off about.... was it the reference to our youth killing each other emulating people like lil wayne.... i work with young black "trying to be" men and it's an uphill battle trying to combat the effects of gangster rap on their morals and their value system....
i've always had respect for you and your posts.... whether i agreed with them or not.... and i've always responded to you with respect.... i'm not the kind of man that takes lightly to people "laughing their ass off" at him.... like i said.... i've always responded to you with respect.... i'd like to be able to continue to do so....

First let me say that I'm a Jaye fan all the way and he's entitled to his opinion about Latta's musical taste. I want to weigh in on this real quick. As someone who has followed Latta's career from her junior year at UNC through the W, I don't care what her musical taste is. I'm in the forty club so we are from different generations. These young people like these hip hop artists - my daughter (she'll be 18 this year) does as well. My daughter is a good kid. She doesn't drink, smoke, do drugs and she's saving herself for marriage (old heads know what that means). Musical taste is a small part of who a person is. I have always admired Latta's confidence, her achievements in the classroom and on the court, her sense of family, and appreciation for her fans. Some folks criticize her but if they really did their research on her background (i.e., overcoming asthma as a small child, leading scorer in SC HS history, numerous college accolades, etc.) they wouldn't criticize her as much. She was the heart and soul of UNC's wbb program and will never be forgotten in CH.
I think a young person like Latta should be celebrated. She's an excellent role model for little girls and boys. My two youngest love watching her. She converted us into wbb fans.
GO DREAM! GO LATTA!

lattafan rote: "As someone who has followed Latta's career from her junior year at UNC through the W, "I don't care what her musical taste is. I'm in the forty club so we are from different generations. These young people like hip hop artists" That reminds me of Friday night when they did the get-to-know the players segment on the screen. It was Haynie's night. She went through her faves list without much reaction until she said what her favorite song was. I couldn't hear the title but it was by "Plies"--and the only reason I recognized the name "Plies" is because I read about him in the AJC (as opposed to seeing a video or hearing a song on the radio). Well you would have thought the guy had just walked onto the court...the kids went nuts when she said that (he was there after all) AFF
