We finally were not only able to keep up with a team well into the 4th quarter but lead the board. Way to go Dream! If you subtract the bad calls that seem to plague us (Ex:NY bouncing out-of-bounds and everyone seeing it BUT the ref), subtract turnovers and add fast break points we'd have won last night.
Stats wise we were the bomb dot com in most areas.
I just have to see if anyone else shares my thoughts:
1)Is anyone else perplexed as to why we waited so long to use our timeouts when we had like 3 left and NY was starting to catch up to us?
2) When Katie kept scoring on the same play and NY took a timeout, why didn't we know they were going to try to shut her down? And why did we repeat the same play after realizing they were on to her?
3) Last. As much as I want her to get playing time, WHY was Strother (who hadn't played) put in to inbound an important possession that could've won us the game?
Someone help me understand...we had the win and it slipped away in a matter of seconds.

I'm not sure I can help you understand, Civic, but I'll throw in my thoughts as well.
With regards to the shot clock "violation"---even the announcer made comment to that when he said, "The call was 'shot clock violation' " instead of just saying "shot clock violation". Not to mention the foul no-calls.
I agree w/you on the turnovers and I'll mention the offensive rebounding we allowed the Lib. If Pat Summit were dead she'd be turning in her grave watching us hand the Lib the ball like that and give them those second and third chances. Watching the game, the o-boards given up make me the maddest. Everyone around our seats was talking about this matter all night (when we weren't cheering our butts off and giving the refs heck). It just seemed like there were never any white jerseys underneath or up on the oppponent's bodies.
I thought Feenstra was doing ok for a stretch, but then the Lib DID SOMETHING ABOUT IT. They made an adjustment. Seems to be missing with us. Anyone else think this?
Since we seem to be shooting our free throws so well, it would be great if we made more opportunities to get to the line and gave the other team less opportunities through stupid fouls.
Speaking of fouls Lacy who had been hot had to sit most of the night in foul trouble.
Strother: Hmmm...was the play designed to have her take the shot? I don't know. Why not put Strother in, have Young inbound as usual but look for BMoney? Anyway, in the games I've seen I have not seen much good execution of these types of plays.
This game seemed similar to Minnesota (another win within our grasp lost) and after that game we didn't do so well a few days later vs. Chicago. Hopefully this won't happen tomorrow night vs. Indy.
I still love my Dream but the Marta ride home last night was not fun.
And finally, how do you say, "Hurry up and get better because we need you" in Portugeuse to Desooooooza?

Is Haynie hurt or tired? She is normally a fire plug and gets better and more intense as she racks up minutes on the floor. I don't see her getting very many minutes each game (5-7). That is disturbing for a player who should be starting, her confidence must be shattered. Certain players have the ability to come in and make big impacts when given a few minutes here and a few minutes there. That has never been KH's profile. She has always done 200% better when she is in the flow of the game and feels the confidence that she will not be yanked out after a couple of minutes.
Haynie does best when she is given a leadership role and minutes on the floor. I don't think the Dream has or will give her that opportunity.
I think if they got her more in the game they would have a better chance of picking up some wins.
Haynie was a winner in college (MSU, beat Tenn in the semi's of the NCAA) and with the Monarchs (WNBA Champs). She did lack time the last two years with the Monarchs due to existing star power at her position on the team. I think that may be the start to some confidence issues she never had in college or her rookie season in the WNBA.
I question why the Dream brought her onto the team without apparently giving her a fair shake. Maybe she is hurting or tired from the European League. I hope its only temorary because the Dream could use her, especially if they plan on starting to win.
If Haynie get some minutes and her confidence back....look out she is a major contributer in all categories on the floor.

in a word..... feenstra happened..... 4 crucial turnovers.... getting her shot blocked because you couldn't slide a piece of paper under her feet when she shoots..... and missing shots six inches from the goal......this was just pitiful.....
and haynie isn't this teams leader..... won't be.... and doesn't deserve to start..... latta is just the better player..... accept it .....the periods that she has been given playing time.... as someone else put it....she's been a "hot mess"..... bytty needs to get her shots..... rightly so.... but her bringing the ball down and shooting.... especially while your pg is in the far corner and out of position to get back and stop the break..... is a terrible idea..... that's what pg's are for betty..... give the ball up.... you'll get it back....
this game was completely demoralyzing..... the other losses were run of the mill.... and in them you could see some really good things.... but this loss was just crappy.....

Hey there danjeau, I appreciated your thoughtful post (surprise, surprise, lol) I think Kristin's knee was hurting when she first got back from Lithuania, as she was wearing a brace (jumper's knee). I think that was affecting her shot. But, I've heard she's had some good practices lately, and her (3) steals in (7) minutes were very impressive last night! She'll be better if she gets more minutes. I liked it in the first half when she & Ivory were playing at the same time. Good teams have good balance, and as she gets more minutes, I think Kristin will impress! Mike in MN

I watched a replay of the Lib game today on CSS. Looks like the shot clock call was the right one, or at least not as wrong as we thought when it happened. Also want to mention that I was really impressed by Little's hustle. She did all the things that don't show up in the box score. We need more of the "little" things, no pun intended. I'm off to tonight's game with my bag of canned food! AFF

Ann inbounded the ball because she was actually the tallest player for the Dream at that time. It was Latta, Lennox, Nnamaka, Young, and Strother- all three point shooters, and Ann's the tallest of the five. So the Liberty just stood big ol McCarville in front of her and had her jump up and down like a monkey, and Ann got flustered, because she's never been mentally strong. Not even in college.
Feenstra HAD been playing well. Then she just KILLED her own team. When they double teamed her it literally looked like a loop of the same play twice in a row.
The problem for Atlanta right now is they just don't know HOW to win. Hopefully they'll learn soon, they are coming so close lately. I think like five losses have been by single digits.

how to win is easy.... keep the ball out of feenstra's hands late in games.... in fact.... keep her out late in games all together.... i'm not as much worried about them knowing how to win.....as i am about them maybe getting used to losing.... i hope they don't get resigned to losing as some teams will do when the wins don't come.... i've seen teams that were used to losing give up and accept their fate when just a little extra effort could have pulled it out for them..... i hope the dream doesn't get to that point....

I think they should let Chioma Nnamaka play and play more. She was a great threepointshooter in college but she needs to get a bit warmed up. Just to throw her in at a crucial point in the game does not hold. Let her play more and give her a chance to prove she is reading the game very well also!

I agree that we really need DeSouza back in the lineup; but, what happened last night with Mann? Why did she only play a few minutes in the first quarter? From sitting in the seats and watching our DREAM team, it looks like we just POOP OUT in the 4th quarter. Realistically, look at these other teams though. They've been playing together for a few years at best. NO EXCUSES, I don't believe in them. We need more strength training; we need to play together to create that bond that a well oiled machine has when it's at peak performance. Our team is phenominal; every single player is talented plus some; give them time to gel. They're hungry for that first win; so are we !!!!! GO DREAM - GO COACH .... HURRY BACK DESOUZA !!!
