Unfortunately, it seems that Atlanta is going to end up with the number one pick in the draft. This could be a blessing in disguise in a draft next year that won't have anything close to the depth of this year's.
I wouldn't take Renee or Tolliver, as both are point guards and Latta fills that spot. Atlanta is going to desperately need another scoring option to be on the floor along WITH the guards that are already playing well (Latta and Lennox).
I personally would take McCoughtry over McCants because I think that her offensive skills are better, and she also provides a spark on defense.
But what I think Atlanta REALLY needs is an athletic big who can score AND rebound. So I would really expect them to take Paris with the first pick (or lower if they are there and she's available).
Thoughts?

i'd lean towards paris.... but it's not carved in stone for me.... vaughn is more versatile.... and is a rebounding machine..... can score and dish.... but sometimes dissapears in games..... if it weren't for this i'd pick vaughn hands down..... but as it is....like i said.... i lean towards paris....

I voted for Angel. Did anybody watch her during the NCAA Tourney this past season? She's freaky athletic. She reminds me of Armintie Price. I love Paris but Paris can't run up and down the floor so I would pick Angel. She carried her team on her back last season. GO ANGEL!!!
Courtney would definitely be my second choice. Does anyone recall how Courney has played against other great post players who can run the floor? Just curious? I'm going to ask on the ESPN board as well later today.

Next year's draft by the Dream will be interesting. We will probably end up with the first pick in the draft. If this year was any indication of how the organization will draft, it will definitely be up in the air until draft time. I like Tamera Young and her athleticism. However, I think there might have been some better options available in the draft when we made the number 8 pick. Clearly, we need a post player. Paris is the most proven player. Vaughn is special in her own right. We don't need another guard unless it's one that is diverse in the positions she can play on the floor (like McCoughtry or Coleman).

Jordan: You are right. We do need a post player and Paris is the best option in the post. I was just so impressed with Angel that, for a minute, I forget where our true need is.
Courtney Paris it is. Are we sure that she's interested in playing in the W? I thought I had read that she wasn't necessarily interested in playing at the next level. Does anyone know?

I have heard similar rumors that she might not be interested in playing at the next level. However, I have not heard any recent news on that end. I think if Courtney Paris loses some weight, she'll be a great asset to any team more than she will be as is.

Not so fast my friend. Remember, the WNBA has the totally stupid lottery system. We wind up with the worst record and we could get the 4th pick in the draft if won of our balls comes out of the hopper last. The Lynx had the worst record two years in a row and did not get the first pick.
No ands ifs or buts...an expansion team should get the first pick...if that doesn't apply then the team with the worst record should get the first pick...just like the NFL.
This years draft was a sham. LL has a baby. The Sparks tie with the Lynx for the worst record. The Sparks ball comes out of the hopper first. They get Parker...Lisa comes back and it looks like they have a good chance of winning the west.
This league is getting tougher and tougher. They have to do a lot more to make expansion teams more competitive sooner.

Take the best player available--Angel McCoughtry (and it's not even close). McCoughtry is the only player in the 2009 draft who is comparable to the top three players in the 2008 draft. The other players have serious flaws in their game that will keep many of them from contributing right away at this level.
Cross your fingers and toes for that #1 pick, folks!

Completely agree with bballfan2005. Not even close. We need Angel. If we can get one more guard who can score like crazy, we are good until we get more help in the post. Angel is the best player out of the class. Gotta run to work now...

Assuming we can keep what we've got, why go for another guard? Haven't we more pressing needs? Look at Lennox, and now, Latta. And we've all seen what Haynie CAN do. And Izzie's back. And Young, whose play is apparently so good that she has to be worked into the lineup DESPITE being another guard.
It seems pretty obvious to me that what we need is what we were overstocked with when the season began: bigs in the paint. Who would have thought that a team that started with DeSouza, Leuchanka, Anderson, Wauters AND Feenstra would be hurting for a big body inside?
Anyone have any idea why the Dream haven't already signed another big? Lovelace and Lacy play well there (when Lacy isn't fouling out) but 6'2" / 6'3" isn't exactly what you're looking for in a WNBA center these days.

given betty's and latta's enjoyment with shooting... i dont' think we need another scorer from the guard position.....we need a versatile big.....teams are driving on us with impunity.... and we need offensive rebounds.... one and done will never get you a win.... i would rather we wound up with paris.... but the way our luck goes.... i've got a feeling we'll wind up getting the third pick and wind up with vaughn..... that or management will make an out of the blue pick that none of us understands.....

Wow! You really think Angel McCoughtry is the best player in next year's draft class? Granted, she's been able to do amazing things at Louisville, but best in the class is a stretch - JMO.
Latta, Lennox, and Izzy can handle the guard load. Camille Little, Tamera Young, and Jennifer Lacy can produce if given more time to do so. We sorely need a post player or at least somebody that will put a body on the opposing player, score in the paint, and take up space. DeSouza is not bad. Feenstra is awful considering what she does (or doesn't do) with her size. Kristen Mann is a small post player. She's a better athlete than some others on the team, but we need to play her more as well.
Management made a bad decision to not keep Carla Thomas. She can take up space in the post as well as step out and hit the 10-15 footer. Her knees aren't the best, but she would really be an asset right now.
Finally, while McCoughtry has the best all-around game of those listed above (I think Marissa Coleman is a very close second), she would not be a good fit in the Dream's scheme (who even knows what it is right now!).

Our biggest problem has been the battle of the boards. We're getting clobbered out there. That's the problem we have to solve in 2009.

I agree petrel our problem is rebounds and we need a big in the middle. We have plenty of scoring. The team needs someone to anchor the defense. When we try to play defense it doesn't look pretty, there no help defense and nobody seem to know how to read where the ball is going. plz draft some inside help if not this team is in trouble for awhile or at least trade for somebody.

While I agree that our defense is pretty bad, I'm not quite sure the post that we need will be the anchor of a better defense. Every player on the floor must play defense. Defense must be a mindset. Defense is a commitment by all. If the coaches are not emphasizing defense, then it does not matter who we get in next year's draft; nor does it matter for the remainder of this year because we will not win.
