Ok, ok, I have not heard anybody say something about the 1st game. Yes, I know we got blew out but what happened. I did not see the game so were there any bright spots? I was embarrassed to see we lost by 33 but what really blew my mind is the fact all the ladies who were here to start training camp did not get much time on the court. She went with the vets and we got our butts handed to us. Now, my next question is do we change the line-up now? Our top draft pick got a DNP, Ivory Latta played 11 minutes and Feenstra got 4 fouls in 16 minutes and 10 points. Hmmm, I'll be patient and let them build some chemistry but it seems funny how all the people who were overseas got all the minutes while the people who were in camp rode the bench. Just my thoughts....

Just my thought , but the vets are the bread winners of the team and the coach is looking for them to step up and produce. I agree that the younger players should have more PT esp., if they produced during training camp. Hopefully they will get the opportunity to show their skills in the near future.

that's operating under the assumption that the coach knows what she is doing.... not an assumption that i personally adhere to....if she has a gameplan ....it's lost on me.....latta looked good when she was in there (other than that one lack of focus turnover).... lennox shot whenever she chose.... she's in the enviable position of being a vet that has a green light and can get her stats without having to bear any blame for losing....
we play defense as if it's existance were just a rumor we'd heard of .... main problem is tho....we don't really play hard.....it's as if we've got the fall back excuse of being an expansion team....so losing isn't really repugnant to us.... these teams we're playing aren't so great that we couldn't cause them at least a little discomfort..... even rookies can play pressure defense..... it's not like they've never played basketball before....they know the concepts....
we've got a serious problem in the paint.... fenstra.....bless her heart.....simply isn't physically able to be a force in there.... she's as slow of foot as anyone breathing person i've ever come into contact with.... and the other bigs we've got play small.....
haynie played ok.....no major negatives....but no major positives either.... also no points....
we just don't seem to have any drive..... we play like a group of traveled castoffs....i say.....let the youngsters play.... if we're gonna loose anyway....lets lose with youth.... at least they..... have the drive to learn something from it.... and won't be content as if they're used to it.... jmo....

Goodness, Jaye -
This is a brand new team cobbled together within the last 30-45 days who just got back the bulk of the talent within the last 2 weeks. What exactly did you expect?
jaymccaskey - the came was webcasted so you should be able to replay it from the website if you want to see. there were some bright spots in the first and third quarters. though to echo jaye on the defense issue, no we're not quite solidified on that yet. there were several errors on switching and helping out in their man defense that is likely due to the players not knowing each other very well. T. Young DNP due to an arthritic knee - we can only have 11 of the 13 active during any one game. I believe it was a last minute decision to have Young be one of the 2 that were inactive. Training camp was to help whittle down the roster we always knew that potentially all of the starters were still playing oversees. I know Latta and Feenstra have been getting a lot of press since they have been in the advertising - but I'm not sure given their lack of experience they would have been chosen to start anyway.
I agree with jaye that our bigs need to play bigger especially on defense and rebounding. But unlike Jaye - I am more willing to allow the team time to gel and figure out their own rhythm. Coach Meadors has been around long enough and has an impressive enough background that even though I don't share in her strategic planning - i am willing to trust that she has a plan. (She took Charlotte to the playoffs in what their second or third year?) We are targeting year 4 for a playoff bid - not game 1. I'm not sure how much you've played (jaye) but it takes some time to learn a new offense, a new coach, her new system, heck even a new city - lets give them some time.
I'm thinking that winning 12-15 games this year is going to be a good thing. Even though it will be painful to watch.

i'm 58..... i played midgets.... pee wee..... juniors..... jr high....high....college.....aau..... i played ruckers.... cali summer league.... played for long beach naval station in the navy.....played various rec leagues for money (guys would pay me to play with them) i'm 58 and still when i go to the court and play pickup....and the teams are picked.... young guys on the other team will look everywhere but in my direction.....cause they don't want to have to play me and get used by what they consider an old man.... i can still play a half way decent game...not great....and the comp is nowhere near what i played against when i was young....tho i coast a lot....and i'm only good for one game...two tops..... so i understand basketball.... i realize their situation.... and i'm not trying to make a forever indictment on the team..... just relating what i saw.... if it improves....it improves.... but as of now....that's how i see them..... and i'm sorry.... but i don't have the confidence in medors that you do....her offenses are unimaginative and predictable.... and i'm still pissed off about thomas being cut... i really believe....if you're going to lose anyway....lose with youth and let it be a learning experience....

Just my thoughts.... fyi....young sat out the game with a bruised knee you have to understand people who were in camp aren't the better players. That is the way Lennox plays why do you think she was always at odds with the rest of the team in Seattle. The reality is that the team just isn't very good. Can you name an above average player on the team? I think Young will be good but isn't healthy so thats a problem. Lennox isn't a team player and never has been and thats always held her back. The issue is the more the team struggles the more selfish she'll get. There is a group of roleplayers marquez/haynie/feenstra/latta and they are the best players on the team. It is going to be a tough season.

To set the record straight, Young was out due to tendonitis. They decided at the last minute to keep her out to save her for the weekend opener. She was cleared by the doctor early in the week. They could only have 11 on the roster so it made sense to not put her in. So she's not unhealthy. As far as the team I think a lot of it is growing pains. It's a team load of girls where only a couple have ever played together. You have Lennox who guns and if we know it the other team knows it as well. I'm with Jaye on letting the young learn, a player like Lennox is stuck in her ways, not much changing her. However I do realize she's important for this team ( we can use all the leadership we can get) but the youngsters need to play more. They were doing okay till the vets came and the ball was passed more. I'm like the rest of the supportive fans, happy there's a team in Atlanta and supporting them as much as I can... Go Dream!!

It was definitely WRONG TO GET RID OF CARLA THOMAS. She PLAYED BIG DOWN LOW AND ALSO MADE HER DEFENDER PLAY HER, BY SHOOTING A JUMPER. SOMEBODY NEED TO PISS KATIE FENSTRA OFF. SHE IS TOO BIG TO PLAY SO SOFT. SHE'S THE TALLEST PLAYER IN THE LEAGUE, PLEASE USE THAT HEIGHT, KATIE AND GET TOUGH. I HAVE NOT FELT THIS STAFF SINCE IT WAS ANNOUNCED FROM THE BEGINNING. They did good starting out, but, they gave up. I HOPE THAT MS. LENNOX REALIZES THAT STATS ACROSS THE PAPER LOOKS BETTER AND SHOWS THAT YOU ARE A TEAM PLAYER. We have a young talented team that can run, has a lot of energy, they need to work together as a team and TRUST EACH OTHER.

I'm ready to change my name to "jayefan" because I am on the same page with jaye in all of his thoughts. Go jaye!
I do think we are all in agreement that: 1. Katie needs to start playing with some urgency or we need to start shopping around for some help in the paint; 2. Our young players need to get more playing time; and 3) I think we all agree that as important as Betty is to this franchise, she can't be permitted to become a ball hog.
There is something terribly wrong with this picture if we can stay with the Sparks the way we did earlier this month and then get blown out by the Sun. I don't know if it's the rotation or the plays or what (haven't seen the Dream play on TV yet) but we need to fix it ASAP.
Those it ATL: Please keep the post-game reports coming in. I really want to see the Dream do well.
GO DREAM! GO DREAM FANS!

i agree lattafan..... we all want to see the dream do well.... beneath all our pregnant dogin' .....we love the dream... as to how we could fight the sparks so close and get blown out by the sun.....lets see..... could it maybe have been the 15 pts on 5 for 9 shooting....4 rebounds....1 steal.... 2 blocked shots.... and general hard nosed under the basket play of ..... CARLA THOMAS..... the fact that i still support this team after they cut thomas proves how much i love the dream....believe me....i've dumped teams for far less..... btw lattafan..... the dream/sun game is in the wnba video archives.... full game.....

Let me make this first point the PRESEASON GAME WE PLAYED AGAINST THE SPARKS MEANT NOTHING! We only stay with them because they had there bench in the game last quarter. Second why some player was cut when they looked good to us we watched them for two games. The coaches watched them for alot more, they probably had reason that we don't know and they have a little more experience than us. Third, the season is not over and the rookies will play alot more. The coach probably went with the vets hoping to look good her first wnba game. It didn't work and she was fast to yank the rookies. Give them time to work out the kinks and bond as a team. GO DREAMS!

One point RE: rookies. the coaches may have decided to play them less early on so that they don't get burnt out. Usually rookies tend to hit a wall about midway through the season because they are not used to playing year round and as frequently as they play in the WNBA. The veterans, besides being some of the better players are better conditioned and used to playing year-round highly competitive basketball.
