Probably made no sense to talk about it until the Dream made it past the first round. Also, she played in Game 1, so she waited until the first game in the Fiba tournament to leave. (Incidently, I was a bit annoyed about that - the beat tiny Paraguay by about 70 points. She could have skipped that game for sure. I guess that w.o her they would have only won by 50.....)

Looks like Dunn really didn't want to play us, but Katie didn't get the memo. Not sure we want to play the Sun either. They are reallytough at home, not that strong on the road. As a team they haven't been in the playoffs (for a while at least, if ever.) Do have some playoff vets for sure.
No matter what happens - nothing can take away a 20 win season, esp. after a 3-9 start.

wnbalien.wordpress.com/2011/09/10/wnbalien-special-eastern-conference-playoff-scenarios/"If Connecticut beat New York, then Atlanta beat Indiana: #2 Conn, #3 Atlanta, #4 New York If Connecticut beat New York, then Indiana beat Atlanta: #2 Conn, #3 New York, #4 Atlanta If New York beat Connecticut, then Atlanta beat Indiana: #2 New York, #3 Conn, #4 Atlanta" If New York beat Connecticut, then Indiana beat Atlanta: #2 Conn, #3 New York, #4 Atlanta So bizarrely, if New York beat Connecticut, they’ll know that they’re playing each other in the first round of the playoffs – but have to wait four hours for the result from Indiana to find out who has home court advantage. That’s because Connecticut win the two-way tie-breaker with New York (2-2 season series record, superior conference record), but come second in the three-way tie-breaker with New York and Atlanta (Connecticut were 2-2 with both the others in the regular season, but New York’s 3-2 season series record over Atlanta gives them the edge)." 3 of the 4 scenarios have us playing the Fever. Since NY plays before us, we may know we are playing the Fever by the time our game starts. If NY loses then if we lose we play Indy. Not sure who we would want to play - Indy is a veteran team, Sun aren't so much. But Indy's pg didn't play last night due to ankle injury, and Indy has been looking beatable lately. Sun are really tough at home, but Indy is no slouch either.

I have to watch the games on my i-phone, so I can't post during games. I was afraid this would happen, but the truth is the Mystics are a lot better than their record. I watched them lose really close games to Indy and Chicago, as well as the Dream earlier. They just have a knack for blowing close games. This time they didn't do it.

I watched the game (on TV) with my mom in of all places - Indianapolis. Went home to visit family for the weekend. Mom wasn't as thrilled as I was with the outcome, but I told her we needed this game a lot more than they did. Good win. Indy seems to have a really good franchise.

Story on basketball in Turkey, where Angel has played, I believe. Says the fans go crazy over the games, throw things at players. Coach cuts a goats head off for good luck......Sounds downright scary to me. Wonder if its true. "Turkish fans lose their minds at women's games, so you can imagine what it's like at men's. "I was watching our women's team play one night," Baron says. "They were beating this team when one of [the other team's] fans set off a flare in the gym. There was smoke everywhere. They had to stop the game." bleacherreport.com/tb/baRaP

Pretty smart play on Angel's part - if you miss by a lot it must be foul. (I remember LaChina saying if you scream you almost always get a foul anyway.) ;D
Say what you will about Angel's complaining to the ref's - its working no one gets to the line more than her in the WNBA.
These announcers sound like they are in a state of depression now. They went from ecstasy to agony in 6 seconds....
Glad we don't play these guys again.

One of the best games I've ever seen. Gotta say one thing - this team has a lot of heart.

Yeah! Dream! I think Armintie should be in the conversation for most improved player. She started doing what she's best at - running - and hits her layups most of the time. Also great to see the team getting the ball into Erica. When she gets the ball inside, usually good things happen. I agree. Notice how she can outrun players while dribbling when they are just running. I love her singlemindedness about going to the basket. Background on the Harding trade was interesting as well. Also, depsite not knowing how to pronounce Iz's last name I enjoyed the announcers - they did seem to do some research on the Dream. Really enjoyed the comment about Joe Bryant backing down from guarding Courtney during practice when she was trying out for the Sparks.

Not the best way to celebrate Sue Bird bobblehead/10 Year night. Methinks the Dream have been saving up for these games against the Storm since last September. Hope they carry this into LA.

This is a terrible trade. This is Braxton's second trade in two years - makes me think coaches don't like her attitude or something. (Of course, Nolan Richardson was the first guy to trade her, so maybe that doesn't count.) Aside from that, I can't think of any reason for a deal like this. Below there is some explanation - she was recently suspended for a game for bad behavior. Bad news for the Dream for sure - NY's weakness was in the middle, it seems to me. From the Mercury Web page: " The Phoenix Mercury has acquired guard/forward Sidney Spencer from the New York Liberty in exchange for forward/center Kara Braxton, the team announced today. “This was not an easy decision,” president and general manager Ann Meyers Drysdale said. “However, we feel this is the right move in continuing our efforts to build a successful team within a first-class organization.” Braxton served a one-game suspension August 2 for conduct detrimental to the team. "“Sidney is a player we have had our eyes on in the past,” said head coach Corey Gaines. “She comes from a championship collegiate program in the University of Tennessee and her ability to shoot the ball will be a valuable asset in our system.” The 6-3 guard was selected 25th overall by the Los Angeles Sparks in the 2007 WNBA Draft after leading the Volunteers to an NCAA national championship in 2007. Spencer was an immediate impact player in the WNBA leading the Sparks with 327 points in her rookie season. She finished the year ranked third in the WNBA in 3-point percentage (.439) and 10th in 3-point field goals made (54)." www.wnba.com/mercury/news/spencer_release_110804.htmlI guess the message is - if you act up, you may have to pack up and move.....
