Anyone know when Izzy is coming back??? We need her speed on defense. Funny you mention Steding dressing out. That second home game I was talking to Rushia Brown afterwards - the first thing she said was that she was thinking about strapping on some shoes and getting some veteran leadership out on the court. We're young...hopefully we just need a little seasoning...

Ivory definitely had her best game so far - which is why Kristin H didn't play that much. Camille had a great game I thought she was tied with Ivory for player of the game. She worked hard! I thought Katie had a pretty good first half (8pts 4rebs) but then didn't play much in the second half. She did much better posting and shooting that little hook though her free throws were off. She's never going to be a gazelle at her size but I think she could be a better shot blocker if she went for the trajectory of the ball rather than the player's hand. She did a pretty good job keeping Wykoff and Fluker busy. Lovelace finally came around and put in a much more solid performance on offense AND defense. I'm not fond of her one-handed jumper but it did get up and in a couple of times. And her rebounding picked up a bit.
There were a few moments of frantic behavior that cost us, I think. But not all was bad. We just have to put this together with the Lacy/Lennox/Young game from Tuesday. Then we're all set!
BTW - did anyone notice Betty limping early in the game - before she got hit in front of the bench. I looked like maybe a light sprain or maybe shin splints - kind of limping. I was wondering if that was why she seemed a little off - timing-wise. Her passing was better, though.

I'm still not convinced she's 100%. She spent the entire first half and a good part of the third quarter sitting on the floor with a heat pack on her knees. I soooooo want her to get in a game with some quality time.

I've seen a number of posts from people with vague info on where their seats are - curious to know if anyone wants to share so we can wave or "air-five" across the court when something great happens.
I'm courtside section 104.

Right. She is part of the "Circle of Friends" that helped get the expansion team in Atlanta. Along with Lisa Borders and the others (sorry...not good with names).

Yes, that last 3-pt attempt to draw the foul was a bad call by the ref. It looked like that play was specifically designed to let B$ try to draw the 3-pt free throw attempt. BUT, there were at least half a dozen turnovers caused by her forcing her way in when there was nowhere to go and either throwing it away or forcing up a shot.
On the plus side, she did this way less than in the first few games. This game at least she did look to pass quite a bit. All in all I think she had a much better outing. Hopefully, she will keep passing and get the rest of the team involved.

best comment of the night from my 11 year-old son [with reverence about Kristen], "She doesn't look like someone you would want to mess with."

are you sure Chas was there? Her sister is my account rep and she didn't say anything about her being there? I ask about Chas all the time so I figure she would have mentioned it. Weird.
Oh - and if it is true I am totally bummed DeSouza is hurt I love her - she owns the paint.

On the transactions page of the WNBA site Anderson and Leuchanka were listed as "suspended" not "waived." I'm not sure what the distinction is - but I hear that the reason is to allow Anderson to heal and Leuchanka to stay in Russia to train for the Olympics. I'm assuming that means the Dream retains rights to contracts for next season.

Desouza IS a monster on the inside. I've never seen a woman that big that is so quick to the ball off almost every shot. She is in the mix for the rebound every time. I actually think she is good coming in from the bench, though I think she could start as well. I don't think Feenstra started on Sunday - Lacy and Lovelace did. They both had their moments as well. I see a lot of potential thus far. And, we have a number of bright stretches - so far almost everyone has had a moment or three of very solid play. We just need, I think, some veteran leadership. We aren't going to get that from Lennox because she is too self-centered and erratic. When she's on she is good when she is off - she just looks bullheaded. Though she did pass better on Sunday.
I'm not sure why everyone is so down on Feenstra - yes, she's big and slow. But, she had some really bright spots this weekend as well. She's never going to move like Desouza, but she isn't horrible. She isn't a 35-min player either. But she is working on getting better at little things and she takes up a whole lot of space. I think in spurts she can provide solid relief for some of the other bigs.
What we NEED in the worst way is an inside/out game and as serious three point threat. Thus far, there has been no consistency in the perimeter game. If the opposing team doesn't respect us out there we'll never get them out of the paint. During the Shock game Friday, we never got a solid entry pass into the bigs in the second half. Sunday vs the Sparks, we did get some. But we're struggling right now in finding the open shot. I'm hoping its just new-team-itis.
Our man defense is struggling with weakside help too. Though I've been intrigued with Young's assignments - so far she's been spending time on the offensive threats. I think she has a good size and is young enough to keep up with some of these folks. I need to do some research on her defensive prowess in college - she was billed as an offensive threat. So far her offensive output has been okay - not outstanding.
We also have had several series where we put some momentum together Latta and Lovelace had a good stretch yesterday. And Desouza had a number of good defensive plays - which on Leslie is saying something.
I haven't been highly impressed by Lacy thusfar - and she is starting...so I'm waiting to see her pick it up a little. Haynie has been solid...but quiet. I see hope for some "Ws" in our future. We certainly seem to have the talent to do something good. Just need to put 4 quarters together.

Goodness, Jaye -
This is a brand new team cobbled together within the last 30-45 days who just got back the bulk of the talent within the last 2 weeks. What exactly did you expect?
jaymccaskey - the came was webcasted so you should be able to replay it from the website if you want to see. there were some bright spots in the first and third quarters. though to echo jaye on the defense issue, no we're not quite solidified on that yet. there were several errors on switching and helping out in their man defense that is likely due to the players not knowing each other very well. T. Young DNP due to an arthritic knee - we can only have 11 of the 13 active during any one game. I believe it was a last minute decision to have Young be one of the 2 that were inactive. Training camp was to help whittle down the roster we always knew that potentially all of the starters were still playing oversees. I know Latta and Feenstra have been getting a lot of press since they have been in the advertising - but I'm not sure given their lack of experience they would have been chosen to start anyway.
I agree with jaye that our bigs need to play bigger especially on defense and rebounding. But unlike Jaye - I am more willing to allow the team time to gel and figure out their own rhythm. Coach Meadors has been around long enough and has an impressive enough background that even though I don't share in her strategic planning - i am willing to trust that she has a plan. (She took Charlotte to the playoffs in what their second or third year?) We are targeting year 4 for a playoff bid - not game 1. I'm not sure how much you've played (jaye) but it takes some time to learn a new offense, a new coach, her new system, heck even a new city - lets give them some time.
I'm thinking that winning 12-15 games this year is going to be a good thing. Even though it will be painful to watch.
